Out of 1039 entries from 79 countries the jury (consisting of Paula Sher, Andrew Howard, Adrian Shaughnessy, Heitor Alvelos, Jessica Helfand and Pep Montserrat) picked Sarah Fanelli as over-all winner, and awarded six others the first prize.

We’ve done it again. Saturday 31 October the third issue of O.K. Periodicals was launched at the Illustrative Festival in Berlin. This biannual independent publication is created in collaboration with design studio O.K. Parking.

The latest edition features work centered around the theme ‘repetition’. An international cast of established and upcoming creatives, writers, photographers, illustrators, graphic designers and fashion stylists all contributed to making this a very special issue. Over 400 people contributed to the worlds first crowd-sourced cover.

Hesign publishers asked me to be part of their new book “Small Studios”. I just received it in the mail, and it is even better than I’d hoped. Many famous and dozens of amazing studios I’d never heard of are featured. Go buy a copy and get inspired.

At the Afrikadag in The Hague today, the new media platform ‘Wereld Media Huis’ was presented. It is a collaborative initiative that helps media organizations in the Netherlands that dedicate themselves to free-press and journalism about aid to developing countries.

A year ago today, I opened my studio. 2008 was an exciting year with many interesting projects and collaborations. Traveling through Japan was inspiring, research on the design aspects of multiculturalism brought many fresh insights, working on O.K. Periodicals was rewarding, and the exhibition with Le Grand Crew was a success. I’ve learned a lot, and I’m ready for what’s coming. Hello 2009!

From now on all my illustrations will be available at my new blog. All the beasts, anatomical rarities and typographical mutants can roam free there. A selection of my illustration work will still be available on the projects page of this website. Enjoy the blog!
